Summer 2015

Its been months since an update here, but only because we've been busy in the alpine soaking up everything summer has to offer.  Some highlights from this summer's adventures above treeline:

March 15th, 2015

The sun is out, temps are high, and time, as it seems to do every March, is screaming by in Crested Butte.

While covering a lot in the month since the last update, I was fortunate enough to get home to DC for a long weekend at the end of February for some long overdue family time. Not surprisingly, my little niece and nephew are quite photogenic.

Back in Colorado, late-February until the resort closes there are events almost every night. From concerts, dinner parties and galas to full-moon parties, alpine ski-a-thons, and CB style bingo at the Magic Meadows Yurt (my personal favorite).

Best of all, we're back in to Daylight Savings Time, which after adjusting to the lost hour of sleep means ample afternoon sunlight for adventures with the @alpinecorgi. Including a recent Friday evening tour up Snodgrass where the lighting on Mt Crested Butte didn't disappoint.

With just three weeks left in the ski season, off-season plans of bike rides and campfires in desert destinations are beginning to materialize. But, there are still plenty of turns to be had and celebration or two in order before the lifts stop spinning.

Ski you out there...

February 15th, 2015

The days are getting longer and the winter season is picking up in Crested Butte.

Despite longing for the return powder days, week after week of bluebird skies and warm temps have made for residents of the valley to get creative with their winter recreation from kite skiing to fat biking and Nordic skiing.

I documented a recent day of ice climbing with a group of severely injured military with the Adaptive Sports Center.

And after a crazy couple weeks, sought out some chill time on a sunny Elk Ave bench with the @alpinecorgi and stopped to soak in one of the many recent stunning sunsets.

January 24th, 2015

It's been a fun start to 2015 with spring like temps around CB and no excuse to be inside.

I wrapped up 2014 by shooting the Christmas Eve torchlight parade then spending New Year's Eve in Gothic at the Maroon Hut with a great group of friends.

Shortly thereafter Jeff Perambo (and Reba) and I spent a long day in the mountains circumnavigating the Anthracites as part of our continued training for the Elk Mountains Grand Traverse.

Assigned to a variety of events for the CB News, I covered both ends of the winter sports spectrum, a 7 hour Nordic ski-a-thon in the morning and the BRAAAAP of snowmobile racing in the afternoon, stopping in at the Trailhead Children's Museum for a quick shot in between.

We hosted our annual teenage burn survivor camp at the Adaptive Sports Center, and accustomed to typically frigid mid-January temps, the returning participants made the most out of a bluebird week.

It's also mid-season for winter sports, and I've been covering a few of the Titans high school basketball games. Shooting indoor sports is still a new challenge and I've been experimenting on how to capture the action with a little variety in composition.

Thanks for looking, as spring approaches numerous events are on the horizon. Looking forward to getting out and capturing as much as possible!
